My name is Chris Olson and my studio is in one of the loveliest spots in the world--Colorado. I am a licensed illustrator and designer specializing in original artwork and surface pattern designs for stationery, textiles, apparel and home furnishings. There are lots of different ways in which I collaborate on projects and you can view my services and deliverables here.
I also partner with brands to help them develop a marketing strategy through social media, webinars, and events. Projects include custom-branded content through design, writing, and editorial direction.
I was recently selected to be featured in Surface Pattern Design Guide at UPPERCASE Magazine ( Issue no. 32)
I was delighted to be included with all the amazing artists featured in UPPERCASE. That’s my artwork (far right side) in the newest issue no. 32! It’s a honor and a thrill to be chosen to be in the Surface Pattern Design Guide! Click on the link to find out more about the Surface Pattern Design Guide.
For the Surface Pattern Design Guide, 774 submissions were received and reviewed by UPPERCASE editor Janine Vangool. She selected 100 to be included in this issue.
You can read all about what inspires me in my new design blog Pattern Bliss and over at Momathon Blog—a visual diary about everything that inspires me for a happy home. Momathon is a blog I have been editing for over 7 years.
The design studio ChrisCocoMedia was founded by me and focuses on illustration, design, and content marketing. The studio's specialties include surface pattern design and custom illustrations--hand drawn art and vector illustrations. I also offer content marketing services.
Obsessed with pattern and color, line work with great personality, and photo journals—I'm a designer with a passion for capturing the sunny moments in life. And when the clouds come out and the snow falls, then come with me to go skiing in the mountains of Colorado, my home for the past two decades.
I was the kid with a Moleskin journal in the pocket of my jeans and a camera hanging around my neck during the summer. In the winter I lived and breathed snow and skiing. I grew up one block from a small ski resort in Minnesota. Working my way through college I was a life guard, a French Pastry chef, and a ski instructor. My love of books landed my first "corporate" job as a book editor and book designer.
Fast forward several years and add a move to Colorado where I now live. I'm a mom of two, slave to three dogs, and lover of all things snow and surf. In my free time you might see me working at a local animal shelter where I manage dog adoption fairs.

In a recent blog post I shared my latest award. I was thrilled and honored to receive the Pattern Observer Award of Excellence. Pattern Observer's goal is to support, inspire and promote both emerging and established designers as they grow their businesses and careers.
According to Pattern Observer: "We would like to recognize these designers who have taken our series of workshops and exceeded our expectations with the Pattern Observer “Award of Excellence.” Designers who have earned our “Award of Excellence” have proven themselves to be talented artists, trustworthy partners and emerging leaders in our industry. They have experience in the apparel, home decor and quilting markets and are working with clients around the globe. Interested pattern buyers should reach out to each designer through their website."
